In the early 1990's David LaChapelle (b. 1964) ushered in a new era of fashion photography. He created images that were outrageous with his version of celebrity obsessed surrealism and hyper-glossy extravaganza.
As a teen LaChapelle worked at Studio54 as a busboy. He would meet Andy Warhol who would hire him to shoot for Interview magazine. Within a few years his images would appear in a host of magazines including GQ, Vanity Fair, The Face, Vogue and most consistently in Details.
This image, and its siblings from the "Can't Wait to Take Her Shopping", proudly manifest some of LaChapelle's favorite ingredients: well-oiled body builders, an affinity for fashion, a celebration of material excess, realized in a slick hyper-bright palette.
